Science Fiction Writer Resumes Career With Masterful Epic

There’s only one way to describe Battlefield Earth: simply magic.

The huge book is L. Ron Hubbard’s first novel in 30 years. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, he had more than 100 published titles, ranking with Isaac Azimov, Robert Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, A. E. Van Vogt and Edgar Rice Burroughs as one of the giants in the field. He also authored 133 articles and short stories.

Battlefield Earth tells the story of an Earth enslaved by a powerful and terrible race of beings called Psychlos, who are desperate for the Earth’s precious metals.

It also tells the story of a young man named Johnny Goodboy Tyler, who with the help of 50 of the last men of Scotland, plans to overthrow the Psychlo Empire and return the control of the Earth to human beings.

It seems ludicrous to think that 50 men – even with submachine-guns -- could ever hope to destroy a race that conquers galaxy after galaxy. But Hubbard’s masterful writing makes the humans’ victory seem a distinct possibility.

Battlefield Earth celebrates the 50th anniversary of Hubbard’s illustrious career in science fiction. The Nebraska-born author has written mysteries, adventure stories, detective stories, westerns and fantasy as well.

Because of its timing and because it marks Hubbard’s return to major fiction, Battlefield Earth is likely to become a collector’s item.

It is sure to live up to its advance publicity as "an epic which will be talked about for years to come."
