A wide range of brilliant artists have created a literal gallery of richly expressive paintings inspired by the sweeping saga of Battlefield Earth, the greatest of these artists being none other than Frank Frazetta, the Hugo Award-winning grand master of fantasy illustration. Though the legendary Frazetta earned his fame with spirited and powerful heroic-fantasy art (most notably for Conan and Vampirella), he has included science fiction in his unique and often-copied portfolio, including works for sf stories written by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Frank Frazetta has dramatically portrayed several of L. Ron Hubbard's vivid science fiction and adventure works in original paintings, and his vision of Battlefield Earthappropriately titled "Man the Endangered Species"captures not only the primal terror of the alien, but the undaunted bravery of the hero and his fierce determination to protect the vulnerable woman he loves.
Other international artists have also offered their own visual windows into a variety of their favorite scenes from Battlefield Earth, many of which can be viewed in this site's gallery.
Taking the world of Battlefield Earth beyond the powerful printed word, textured voice and sound or even beautiful artistic renditions, one finds three dimensional representations. The memorable villain, Terl, has materialized and entertained onlookers at science fiction conventions, book fairs and in many other public appearances throughout the world, as both an oversize12 foot tallgiant mechanical figure and an even more neck-bending 30 foot tall inflatable likeness.
This personification of Terlescorted under careful guard by hearty Scottish Highlanderstoured the United States, beginning on 5th Avenue in New York City. There was no escape of the dangerous Psychlo mastermind ever reported, yet sightings concerning his whereabouts continue to this day.
Battlefield Earth is inspiring a new generation of readers who love the fast-paced action and page turning adventure of this compelling tale of the year 3000. There are plans in progress or fully underway for exciting new media incarnations, ranging from a comic/graphic novel to, at long last, the motion picture adaptation of the story, which is now in production and set for a summer 2000 release.
