| John
Travolta received a warm welcome from the fans at Norwescon, which took place in
Seattle this weekend. The actor made an appearance at the convention on April 23rd
as part of his promotional tour for the Battlefield Earth movie, based on L. Ron Hubbards bestselling
science fiction novel. The film opens on May 12 nationwide.
Travolta was initially greeted
upon his arrival by Brian Herbert (co-author, Dune: House of Atreides) and his
family, and by authors Dr. Gregory Benford (Cosm) and David Brin (The Postman)
and artist Barclay Shaw.
Around five hundred fans lined
up patiently with Battlefield
Earth posters, books, convention
programs and other memorabilia to get the actors autograph - and none of them were
disappointed.
Bjo Trimble, the Fan Guest of
Honor at Norwescon, was also in attendance and received a thank you from Travolta for her
efforts in helping to save the original Star Trek TV series from being taken off
the air after the initial season - which thus provided the world with many more chapters
of Star Trek!
When the signing was completed,
ConChair Pat Booze presented Travolta with unique parting gift - an honorary membership
badge in his Battlefield
Earth characters name, Terl!
